{ Center Piece }

I thought I'd change things up a bit for the holidays.
I took down our chandelier for the Boutique
and kind of like this look for the
Christmas Season

it was simple, easy, & free!
I still have room for plates on either side of the sled, so I could also use the sled to place the food on.

I might even try to suspend the sled from the ceiling!
Wish me luck!

Just Paint It!

Grey on grey from the gorgeous Bed Of Flowers in Holland
A simple blue chair makes this entry hall.
It's hard to go past white painted furniture on white floors and walls.
Love this modern update on shabby chic at Bed Of Flowers in Holland
Even Ralph Lauren is getting into it....

I have to admit I still feel a twinge of guilt when applying a first coat of paint on a perfectly nice piece of wooden furniture. On my recent travels shooting house stories for the glossies, I saw some particularly good examples which I can't show yet as they have not been published!
In the meantime, here are some favourites from my files.

I am making a long list of pieces I need to do myself, both for home and the beach cottages...
First up, I have to paint some old cane furniture for my verandah and I am wondering if I should paint them all white or add some colour?

at a homegoods near you

before i start my post i just want to say how much i appreciate all of your sweet comments and congratulations about my pregnancy.  i feel so blessed to be able to share this news with you. i cannot wait to start the nursery design process.  there will be much more to come as the months pass.  xoxo!

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
today i took a shopping trip to one of my favorite places to get inexpensive home accessories…homegoods.  shopping for accessories in retail stores around the holidays is one of my most favorite and least favorite things to do.  let me explain…i love shopping for christmas decorations and presents during the holidays, but this time of year christmas decor takes up half of homegoods.  there ends up being so little regular accessories to choose from, so when i’m shopping for a client’s home it becomes very difficult.
today though, i found some great pieces while i was out.  i had my cell with me so i snapped a few pics.
loved these oversized embroidered suzani pillows.
2010-11-23_11-30-38_2792010-11-23_11-30-59_889one of the best finds was these nail head oversized storage boxes from global views.  these retail for around $500 and i found a green set at homegoods for less than $180.
hg cube how cute are these little foo dogs!!
HG foo hg foo2
i wanted to take these cute little night stands home with me…even though i have no place for them.
this last table is gorgeous.  at $200 on clearance it’s a total steal.
i couldn’t resist getting one thing for myself.  i snagged this cute little guy for $10.  if you think he looks familiar it’s probably because you’ve seen him at z.gallerie for about $20.  i’m thinking about using him in the nursery.  i’ll have to see once the design comes together.
Beach Vintage in the Weekly
Simone looked beautiful on the day in her Lazybones dress.
Here is the opening page of the article.
Its a shame Simone's sewing room didn't make it - its interesting to see where she works!
The whole house is so light and open - perfect for such a warm climate.
Love the rustic, shabby chic look at the beach.
Just out today is the Christmas issue of the Australian Womens Weekly with a story we did on Simone at Beach Vintage. What a dynamo and terrific girl is that Simone!
Simone's beautiful waterfront home is in a part of Queensland I had never been before called the Redland Shire between Brisbane and the Gold Coast.
Like many of you I have been a follower of Beach Vintage since I discovered blogging and walking around her house, everything seemed so familiar. Meeting the people who own these inspiring places is always such a pleasure.
As usual, as there is never enough room to publish all the photos we like, so here are some more.
The Weekly have done a lovely job with the story and its a thrill for me too to be contributing to such an Australian icon.
