{ Chalkboard Paint }

Each week I spend lot's of time in my garage creating and painting. Sometimes I'll clean up a vintage piece like the goose neck lamp above. Or wipe down some soda crates (hello...lego storage) and metal tins.

I'll also upcycle some discarded items. Like the single drawer pictured above. I lined the inside with vintage music sheets. It's a great catch-all for a coffee table, or for magazine storage under a bed. You could even mount it on a wall for a creative shelf.

Besides the cleaning this week, I used lot's and lot's of chalkboard paint.

I used the paint on furniture and frames. (49 frames to be exact)

All these items can be purchased at 3 different locations.

  1. Clover Market in Chestnut Hill Philadelphia
  2. the Pop Up Shop at my house (details below)
  3. Serendipity in Doylestown, PA.

{ Miss Mustard Seed Milk Paint Demo }

Hey all! have you been hearing everyone talk about milk paint and wondered, "what the heck is all the fuss about?"
Well, here's your chance to find out.
My girl Dana, from Circa Dee will be giving a FREE MMS Milk Paint demo at Serendipity Shops of Doylestown on Saturday, Oct. 19th.

I'll be at the demo too. Because, believe it or not, I could use some tips too.
I pretty much fly by the seat of my pants when using MMS milk paint, and I thought it was about time I has some professional training.
And, I'm dying to get my hands on the new frother to mix my milk paint with too.

For another shameless promotion, I'm offing this coupon for anyone who would like to shop at Serendipity while attending the paint demo.
Simple print out this coupon or pull it up on your phone while checking out and you will save big!

*please note that this coupon is ONLY good for the day of the demo - October 19th,
and only good for The Painted Home's products, not the whole store or for any Milk Paint products.

Are you wondering what I sell at Serendipity?
Here's some eye candy for your viewing pleasure...

{ Creating Cottage style }

Do you walk into some people's homes and wonder why it feels so cozy? You dream about your house having the same feeling?
Well, loosen' up sister. I'm gonna give you some tips and tricks so you can have the same feel in your own home.

#1 Add natural elements. Keep it real. not everything has to come from a store. Talk a walk. Pick up some pine cones or a batch of leaves. You'd be surprise at what they'll add to your coffee table.

#2 Embrace imperfections. You house is never going to look perfect. Roll with it.

#3 Keep it Cozy. I love to keep extra pillows and blankets around. Especially with a house full of kids. They're always snuggling up somewhere.

#4 Mix Patterns and textures. If you like it, use it. Forget matchy matchy.

#5 Layer. This is a little tougher. But, play with it. Add some items, then take some away. ask a friend. You'll get it.

There you have it. By now you should have a cozy, comfy, layer room somewhere in your home. Enjoy it.

{Adding Fall Curb Appeal }

I'm not good with plants or flowers. at. all.
So, I stay away from things I have to keep alive.
I try to root through my supply of junk and create something new each season.
"Try" is the main word there. I don't always keep up with the exterior of the house. Don't be fooled. I'm just like you.

A project my kids love is going to the local cemetery (doesn't every kid?). There is a great pine tree there and we all collect pine cones. They are very competitive, so they like to out do each other and see who can pick the most pine cones for their mother.

This year we loaded up the baskets on the bike with pine cones and mini pumpkins.

I also added this flour sack covered basket of fake flowers to the front entrance.
It was raining at the time of this picture, so the "welcome" is a little weepy.
The chalkboard vintage chairs will be available for sale at my booth in Chestnut Hill's Clover Market and my own pop up shop on November 8 &9th.

Finally I added something to the front window.
I've been painting frames like crazy for my upcoming sales, so I decided to put on to good use.

You saw this in my post from the other day. Still lovin' it.

{ Halloween Costumes }

Do your kids let you make their Halloween Costumes?
Mine don't have a choice.

Yesterday I got together with my girl Jenn Fred, from Good Day Philadelphia (FOX 29) and I showed her how you can come up with some super crafty costumes, with items your probably already own.

Check it out. And, I did NOT wear that final costume last year. Jenn did.

Philadelphia News, Weather and Sports from WTXF FOX 29

What will you force your kids to wear this year?

{Wreath Schmeath}

Or something like that.
Who needs a wreath when you can throw together a bunch of junk from your garage?
Are you with me?

Here's how I took some inspiration from Chartreuse and Co. (from my past weekend in MD) and turned it into my own wall hanging. Thank you Chartreuse. I want the find the person who created this and kiss them.
Here's the original...

Breathtaking, ehh?

So here's how I broke it down.
I knew I had an old screen hanging around from a past trash pick.

I added a 3" screw to the top of the screen so I had something to hang the rope from.

You do own a drill, don't you?

Leave most of the screw showing and wrap the rope around it. Tie the other end of the rope to the handle on the bucket.

Make this very official looking knot.

Start filling the bucket with the rest of the junk you have laying around.

So happy about this. What are you going to throw together?
