{ Anthro Knock off Shade }

I pretty much love every product Anthropologie sells.
Who doesn't?  The prices, not so much.
So, every now and them I've gotta knock off an idea I see at Anthropogie.
My latest victim, a lamp shade. I love the one above.
But, besides not needing another lamp, I don't need the $98 price tag. (and that just for the shade people!)

So, I set out to recreate the same look for little to no cost...
Here's my simple, cute Homegoods lamp. (with ho humm shade)

Although the shade already had a burlap like fabric on it, I wanted to add my own.
I laid the shade on top of the burlap and hot glued, then rolled, hot glued, then rolled.

I trimmed the burlap after I glued it to the shade.  I wanted it a little messy and crumpled for more texture.
I folded the edge when I got the the seem.

After that, I glued my fabric flowers around the shade. No rhyme or reason, just a natural flow of flowers.
(I also frayed the edges of the burlap around the bottom of the shade for a more distressed feel.

Ta-Da! Here's the side by side...

{ Thank You HOUZZ ! }

houzz interior design ideas

I found out the other day that The Painted Home has been voted by the Houzz community as a winner of their first-ever "Best of Remodeling" awards!
I was completely shocked and thrilled.

My work won in the "Design" category, and my portfolio included some of the most popular images on Houzz. You can see all the award-winning work in this

I'm completely stunned that my work is placed side by side with such great local Philadelphia Designers and Architects.
Thank you Houzz and the 1.2 million readers!

{ His/Hers Frames }

I'm loving the 2 recycled wood frames I made this past weekend.

I recently trashed picked this fabulously chippy gray beadboard.

I have been wanting a fabric flower wreath for my door since the weather started getting nicer.
I was going to do the typical foam wreath base, but in a rectangular shape, when I thought of this.
Why not have the flowers bursting out of the frame?

I was too impaitent to run to the hardware store for the proper attachments, so I use these leg bracketts instead, which work just fine.

For the second frame, I went to the hardware store to stock up on these brackets (cause I think I'm hooked on this project and plan to make more frames).

I used chair webbing for the hangers.
easy peezy.

{ Refreshed Foyer }

I recently spent some time at Carrie's house freshining her foyer.
She has 3 young children, and this is their main entrance.  So, it was a minor hot mess.
It still needs a fresh coat of paint, but here's what we added so far...

Some shelves by the door to drop mail and keys and such.  The basket swill help hold all these without it looking like a mess
 We also hung some art work for a little personality.

The shelves were made from vintage books and brackets from IKEA.
(if you look closely you'll see the title of this book "Historic Philadelphia"...which is were Carrie lives, perf, ehh?)

We also installed this round distressed mirror to reflect the light and add some curves to the space.
The bench was custom made by John Duffy @ Stable Tables.
We'll add another basket under there to corall more shoes.

We also added some vintage books to her son's room to hold his trophys.
Louis had a little nook in is room that was just dead space.  So, we used that space to display his trophies.

and tons more! (I think about 150 vendors, but don't quote me on that)

Clover (as the locals say...) also has a Facebook page that's constantly updated with vendor info and eye candy!
The location is in the Municipal parking lot (aka Schauffele Plaza) at 12 E. Lancaster Avenue in Ardmore, PA and on a portion of Cricket Terrace. The lot sits just between Cricket Avenue and Rittenhouse Place, directly across from Brownie's 23 East and next to Bella Italia Pizza.

Join me on opening day, Apri 15th for a little talk/tutorial on how to incoorporate all the fabulous goodies at Clover Market into your home.  Time to be determined, but I'll keep you posted.

JCP

I was kindof surprised to see this slipcovered sofa on JCP’s website.  I think it’s safe to say that JCP is stepping up their game.

image

Looks pretty darn good, right?  And what about the price? $900.  You can’t beat that.  I’m not sure about the quality because the reviews are mixed, but if you have a room that you won’t be using much this sofa would probably be great.

And look at this mercury lamp

image

At $65 it’s a fraction of the cost of this lamp from Pottery Barn.

As far as window treatments go, JCPenney has long been one of my main hardware resources.  It might surprise you that a designer would buy window treatment hardware from JCP.  When it comes to basic, no frills hardware at a low cost though, they can’t be beat.  One of my favorite rods is the Studio ceiling mount rod.  I love it because you can mount it to the ceiling or the wall.

The thin profile is perfect.  Here’s an example from a project that I did a couple of years ago.

CR 9

Hopefully Penney’s will continue to step it up in the future.  I’m liking this new branding direction.
